Auto detailing
Local SEO for auto detailing.
A full detail is a hundred and seventy-five dollars. A ceramic coating on the same car is eight hundred to eighteen hundred. Operators who specialise reach the same revenue on half the jobs.
- $175
- average detailing ticket, four jobs a day
- $800 to $1,800
- typical ceramic coating ticket
- $30 to $80
- product cost on a coating job, under 10% of ticket
- $20,000 to $25,000
- monthly revenue for coating specialists, at half the volume
Two businesses, same premises, same equipment
Published 2026 detailing benchmarks. The last row is the reason to read the rest.
| Standard detail, average ticket | $175 | about four jobs a day |
|---|---|---|
| Full detail range | $150 to $500 and above | |
| Ceramic coating | $800 to $1,800 | $500 entry to $2,500+ for large SUVs |
| Coating specialists | $20,000 to $25,000 a month | at half the job volume |
Half the jobs, four to ten times the ticket, under ten percent material cost.
The trade-off is real: a coating takes a day or more where a detail takes two hours, so this is not free revenue. What it is, is a far better use of a finite bay. Product cost stays under ten percent of the ticket, the customer is choosing on skill rather than price, and one coating job replaces four or five details on the same floor space.
Figures are 2026 US detailing benchmarks. The revenue figure for coating specialists is a published observation, not a projection for any particular business.
Ticket size tracks specificity almost exactly
| Search type | What they type | Where their head is at | Priority |
|---|---|---|---|
| Paint protection | ceramic coating [city], paint protection film near me, graphene coating cost | Researching for weeks, choosing on skill and portfolio. Highest ticket in the trade. | Highest |
| Correction and restoration | paint correction near me, swirl mark removal, headlight restoration, scratch removal without respray | A specific defect. Few operators can do it properly and the customer knows it. | Highest |
| Problem cleaning | pet hair removal car, vomit clean car interior, mould in car interior, smoke smell removal | Urgent, unpleasant, uncontested, and priced accordingly. | High |
| Generic | car detailing near me, mobile car wash [suburb], interior detail price | Comparing on price against mobile operators and hand wash bays. | Medium |
This is a trade sold entirely on before and after
A customer paying fifteen hundred dollars to have paint corrected and coated is buying a result they cannot verify in advance and cannot easily judge afterwards either. What they can do is look at your previous work, and that is almost the entire basis of the decision.
Which makes photography the core asset rather than a nice addition. Not a clean car in a car park. A specific defect before, the same panel after, in the same light, with the paint depth reading if you take them. Detailers who photograph properly charge more, and it is not a coincidence.
The second half is the review. A review saying great job is worth almost nothing on a fifteen hundred dollar sale. A review naming the vehicle, the coating product and how it has held up after eighteen months is worth more than any page you could write, and it is obtained by asking for it specifically rather than generally.
Four things that move you up the ticket
A coating page with the maintenance honestly described
What it does, what it does not do, how long it lasts, what maintenance it needs, and when it is not worth it. Overpromising is common in this field and customers have learned to be sceptical, which makes honesty a differentiator.
Before and after galleries organised by defect
Swirl marks, oxidation, water spotting, clear coat failure. Not a general gallery. Somebody with a specific problem wants to see that exact problem solved.
Pages for the unpleasant jobs
Pet hair, mould, smoke, biological spills. High urgency, no competition, priced without argument, and they frequently reveal a customer who then buys a full detail.
Your training and the products you are certified for
Manufacturer certifications are a real differentiator on high-ticket coating work and they are also a search term. Customers look for approved installers by name.
Ninety days, moving up the ticket
- Days 1 to 14
Listing, services and photographs
Every service listed by name, including coating, correction and the speciality cleans. Then thirty photographs of your own work, replacing whatever stock imagery is there.
- Days 10 to 40
The coating and correction pages
Written properly, with maintenance, longevity and limitations. These are the searches with the highest ticket and the customers who research for weeks before booking.
- Days 30 to 60
The defect galleries and the unpleasant jobs
Organised by problem rather than by package. These convert quickly because the searcher has one specific thing they want fixed.
- Days 60 to 90
Reviews that name the product and the vehicle
Ask specifically. A review naming a coating on a named car, eighteen months on, is the most persuasive asset available in this trade.
What detailers ask us
Is ceramic coating really worth specialising in?
The published figures are stark: $800 to $1,800 a ticket against $175 for a standard detail, with product cost under ten percent, and specialists reaching $20,000 to $25,000 a month at half the volume. The trade-off is that a coating occupies a bay for a day, so it is a capacity decision rather than free revenue.
What matters most on the website?
Photographs of your own work, organised by defect. This is a trade sold on before and after, and a general gallery of clean cars does not answer the question the customer is actually asking.
Should we do the unpleasant jobs?
They are among the best pages available. Pet hair, mould, smoke and biological cleaning are urgent, uncontested and priced without negotiation, and they often turn into a full detail.
How do we compete with cheap mobile operators?
Not on the generic searches, where you will lose. On correction, coating and speciality work, where a mobile operator with a bucket cannot deliver the result, the comparison does not arise.
Do certifications matter?
On high-ticket coating work, considerably. They are a genuine differentiator and customers search for approved installers by product name, which is a search almost nobody optimises for.
