What local SEO for a local business includes

Six areas of work that run together. A strong profile with a weak site stalls; a strong site with an incomplete profile never reaches the map pack.

Google Business Profile optimization

Correct categories, every service and product listed, hours, attributes, photos, and regular posts. The single biggest lever in map-pack ranking.

Local keyword research

The service-plus-city phrases, 'near me' variations, and question searches your customers actually type — each mapped to a page that can rank for it.

On-page SEO

Titles, headings, copy, and internal links tuned for local intent, plus dedicated service and location pages.

Citations and NAP consistency

Your name, address, and phone identical everywhere they appear. Inconsistencies dilute the trust signals Google uses to place you.

Reviews and reputation

A repeatable way to ask at the point a job closes, and a response to every review that arrives. Feeds rankings and decides who gets called.

Technical SEO

Mobile speed, crawlability, indexing, and LocalBusiness schema. Local search is mostly mobile, so a slow phone experience loses customers first.

How we run a local SEO campaign

The order matters. Content built on an unindexed site does nothing, and links pointed at pages that don't exist yet are wasted.

  1. Month 1

    Audit and roadmap

Profile audit, local keyword research, a technical crawl, and a written plan naming which pages get built and when.

  2. Months 2–3

    Profile, technical, on-page

Categories and services completed, indexing issues cleared, service pages rewritten around real queries, citation cleanup started.

  3. Months 4–5

    Content, reviews, links

City and suburb pages, supporting content, a live review cadence, and local links from suppliers, associations, and regional press.

  4. Month 6+

    Measure and consolidate

Ranking review against the roadmap, conversion work on pages now getting traffic, and the next tier of keywords.

Why local businesses choose RankLocal

Local SEO only

We don't split attention across national campaigns and ecommerce. Map pack, Business Profile, and local intent is the whole job.

You own everything

Your profile, your listings, your site, your logins. Nothing is held hostage if the engagement ends.

Reporting you can check

Every number we report traces back to Search Console or Business Profile insights you can open yourself.

We'll tell you when to stop

If your average job value and market size don't justify twelve months of SEO, we say so at the audit instead of selling it.

Reviews handled, not outsourced

Review requests and responses are part of the work, not an upsell bolted on later.

Real engagements behind the advice

Three documented case studies with client-verified numbers, not stock testimonials.

Local SEO suits any business where customers search by location and buy nearby. These pages cover the specifics for each trade.

Local SEO questions business owners ask

What is local SEO for a local business?

Local SEO is the work of getting your business to show up when nearby customers search — in the Google map pack, on Google Maps, and in the results beneath them. It combines your Google Business Profile, location-focused pages on your site, citations, reviews, and site health into one system aimed at more calls, bookings, and walk-ins.

How long does local SEO take to work?

Google Business Profile improvements can move within two to six weeks. Rankings for competitive service-plus-city keywords typically take three to six months and consolidate over nine to twelve. On our own engagements the first meaningful jump in clicks and average position landed around month three.

How much does local SEO cost for a small business?

It depends on how many locations and service areas you need to rank for, how competitive your category is, and whether your site needs technical repair first. We quote after the free audit rather than from a rate card, so you are pricing the actual job. [NEEDS DATA — public pricing bands not yet set.]

Do I need local SEO if I already rank on Google Maps?

If you already appear for your main terms, the gain is usually breadth: the secondary services, neighbouring suburbs, and question searches you are not visible for yet. It is also worth checking how much of your visibility depends on proximity alone, because that advantage disappears when the searcher is a few kilometres away.

What is the difference between local SEO and regular SEO?

Regular SEO optimizes for relevance and authority. Local SEO adds two signals Google weighs heavily for location searches: how close you are to the searcher, and how prominent you are locally — built from reviews, citations, and local links. That is why a small local business can outrank a national brand in its own city.

Can I do local SEO myself?

A lot of it, yes. Completing your Google Business Profile, fixing inconsistent business details across directories, and asking every customer for a review are all doable in-house and cover real ground. What usually needs help is the sustained part — building service and location pages, earning local links, and keeping a review cadence going through a busy quarter.
