Getting your business right on Apple Maps

A record of your business already exists on Apple Maps and it is probably wrong. It is what Siri reads from, and you can place the pin yourself.

There are plenty of step-by-step guides to claiming this. There is very little on why a busy business owner should spend an hour on a platform that sends them less traffic than Google, so start there.

The record already exists, and it is probably wrong

This is not a new listing you are creating. Apple already holds a record of your business, assembled from data sources, and it is showing to people right now. Claiming it is not adding yourself to a directory, it is correcting a public record you did not write.

The usual state we find these in: hours from three years ago, a phone number from before a change, a pin dropped in the middle of the block rather than on your door, and no photos at all.

It is not really about Apple Maps

Apple Business Connect, launched in January 2023, manages how your business appears across Maps, Siri, Safari, Spotlight and Wallet. Maps is one surface among five.

The one that matters most is Siri. When somebody in a car asks their phone for the nearest business like yours, this record is what answers. That is a hands-free, high-intent, ready-to-drive-there request, and it is being answered from data you have never checked.

The one thing you get here that Google does not offer

You place the pin yourself. You can enter coordinates directly or drag the marker to the exact spot.

That sounds small and it is not, for anyone whose entrance is hard to find: a unit in a complex, a business at the back of a shared driveway, a shopfront on a corner where the street number lands on the wrong side, an industrial estate. Google infers your pin. Here you set it.

If you have ever had a customer ring saying they are outside and cannot see you, this is a twenty second fix for a problem that has been costing you all year.

Claiming it, briefly

  1. 01Go to businessconnect.apple.com and sign in with an Apple account. Use a business one rather than your personal one, and record where the login lives.
  2. 02Search for your business by name plus city, and by phone number. Try both, because the existing record may be under details you no longer use.
  3. 03Claim the existing record if it is there. Only add a new location if searching genuinely finds nothing, or you have created a duplicate.
  4. 04Verify. The method offered depends on your business type and the data Apple already holds.
  5. 05Drag the pin to your actual entrance. Do this even if it looks approximately right.
  6. 06Fill in hours, phone, website and categories, copying exactly from the same document you used for every other listing.
  7. 07Add photos. The record is almost certainly showing none.

Listings typically appear within three to seven days, and up to two weeks in busy periods. Do not resubmit while you wait.

Keep it identical to everything else

The entire value of this depends on the record agreeing with your Google listing, your website and your directories, character for character. A second authoritative source stating a different phone number is worse than no second source. Copy and paste from the one document, which is the discipline described in NAP consistency.

Then leave it alone

This is a claim, correct and check task, not an ongoing channel. Set a reminder for twelve months and move on. It belongs in the small group of listings that genuinely earn their place, which is a finite list with an end, as do directory listings still matter sets out.

Is Apple Business Connect worth it for a small business?
For an hour once, yes, mainly because Siri answers from this record and because a listing already exists whether or not you claim it. It is not an ongoing channel.
Does Apple Maps affect my Google rankings?
Not directly. It contributes to your details being consistent across authoritative sources, which is what local search uses to recognise a business, and it is a surface of its own.
How long does an Apple Maps listing take to appear?
Typically three to seven days after approval, and up to two weeks in high volume periods. Do not resubmit while waiting.
Can I set my exact location?
Yes, by entering coordinates or dragging the pin. It is the most useful feature of the platform and the reason to bother if your entrance is hard to find.
What if there are two listings for my business?
Claim the one with the most accurate data and report the duplicate. Do not create a third, which is the usual outcome of an impatient afternoon.
